Someone once wrote a note to the editors of Poetry Magazine in which he complained about a lack of “classical” poetry, defined through meter and rhyme. The person said he could not find any such poets currently out there and wanted suggestions for further reading. The editors did not respond.

This is a shame for many a reason: metered/rhyming poetry is the stuff of oral traditions that have allowed epics from centuries past to reach us this day; it is always good to know the past forms in order to appreciate/understand the present ones, or at least attempt to; and there is certainly no lack of good rhyming, metered poets today
